Onu Harps on Science for Peace, Human Rights

ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Science & Technology Report) – The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu (Dr) has reiterated the need for the use of science to promote peaceful and sustainable societies in the world order.

Speaking during the celebration of World Science Day 2018 with the theme: “Science, A Human Right,” on Monday November 12, 2018 in Abuja, the Minister said that science ought to be used for the benefit of societies by both national and international communities. He also harped on the efforts of the Federal Government to deploy science and technology to grow the economy as contained in the National Strategy for Competitiveness in Raw Materials and Product Development in Nigeria.

Ogbonnaya Onu mentioned that the policy sought to encourage local production of goods so as to create employment and conserve foreign exchange earnings. Adding, with this approach, Nigeria’s currency will compete favourably with other currencies in the world. He indicated that Nigeria is already benefiting from the National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap as witnessed in the increased participation of Nigerians in scientific activities.
