The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quakers Dokubo has embarked on a creek to creek awareness campaign to enlighten the people of the Niger Delta on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The creek to creek amnesty awareness campaign has as its theme “Need for sustaining lasting peace, development, stability and showcasing the activities/achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Amnesty Office in the Niger Delta Region.”

The campaign which saw a large turn-out of participants from all works of life, kicked off in Benin City the Edo State capital; then moved to the ancient city of Warri in Delta State.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dokubo, who was represented by Chief (Barr) Lucky Loyibo, SA Political of the Presidential Amnesty Office, said, “our objective here today is principally to enlighten the Niger Delta people of the need to maintain the present peace achieved as to engender development in the Niger Delta region and also to showcase the giant strides, activities and achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration through the Presidential Amnesty Programme to the people of the Niger Delta region so far.”

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that there is peace in the Niger Delta region which has led to a boost in oil production, “our daily oil production output is now at about 2.8million barrels per day”.

Also, according to him the President’s initiative to engage the leaders, stakeholders and militants of the Niger Delta region paved way for the restoration of peace, development and stability which reduced the spate of militant agitation in the area.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has been able to address the issues of marine insecurity and pipeline vandalism which has brought its attendant economic growth to the Niger Delta.

The N-Power Initiative has engaged a lot of Niger Delta Youths, so also is the Anchor Borrower Programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria which is giving loans to farmers, thereby keeping people gainfully engaged.

While genuine concerns and complaints of ex-agitators and stakeholders are being attended to, the Amnesty office is currently paying the monthly stipends and other financial obligations regularly since the assumption of duties by Prof. Charles Quakers Dokubo as the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The Presidential Amnesty Programme has become a success story and a pointer that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is committed to addressing the age long neglect and marginalization of the region which has remained the economic nerve-center of the country.

Chief Loyibo further urged all Niger Delta people to continue to support the present administration and the Amnesty Programme for more dividends of democracy.

The campaign is expected to cover all the Niger Delta States in the coming days.
