Sen. Kashim Shettima sought for and was granted the leave of the Senate to move a motion on Boko-Haram attacks in Borno State

The Senate resolved to:

  1. Condemn in strong terms the dastardly acts perpetrated by these insurgents;
  2. Observe a minute silence in honour of the victims of the attacks;
  3. Ask the Federal government to begin a process of rehabilitating the affected communities through the North- East Development Commission;
  4. Urge the Military Authorities to establish a base in Auno to intensify their efforts in the fight against insurgency in the North-East and instruct the Defence Headquarters to set up a panel to investigate what transpired at Auno and find measures to forestall future occurrence;
  5. Urge the Federal Government through NEMA and Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to send relief materials to families of those affected by the attack; and

Additional Prayer:

vi. Urge the Military and all relevant security agencies involved in the fight against Boko-Haram to reengineer and or rejig their approach towards fighting insurgency in the North-East and other parts of Nigeria.

  1. The need to mainstream the National Parks Service into Nigeria security architecture

The Senate resolved to:

  1. Mainstream the National Park Service into the National Security architecture in line with the resolution of the 12th National Council on Environment (FMENV/!@th/NCE/FED/IG?123);
  2. Give special training in firearms and ballistics as well as surveillance & intelligence information gathering to Park Rangers;
  3. Conclude the tripartite consultation (Ministries of Environment, Agriculture and Interior) on the presidential intervention; and
  4. Involve other Security Agencies in park protection and surveillance; and

Additional Prayer:

v.  Involve the Host Communities in Park and surveillance through development intervention and livelihood support

CONSIDERATION OF BILLS

  1. A Bill for an Act to repeal the Police Act Cap.
