The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu has said that for private universities to thrive they would need to enter into partnership with big time private sector investors.

He disclosed this in his Office during a courtesy visit by the representatives of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

Shittu advised them to formally write to the Ministry about their request, stating the areas they would like the Ministry to intervene, and that after proper and detailed study, their request would be channeled to the appropriate Agencies under his supervision for possible assistance and partnership.

Delivering his speech, the leader of the University representatives and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Ganiyu Badmus said he was highly honoured by the Minister’s consent to receive them irrespective of his usual heavy schedules.

He said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to solicit the Minister’s assistance to further realize the attainment of the University objectives, and brief him on the challenges and impediments to the realization of these objectives.

The areas they want the Minister to intervene, includes the provision of logistic broadband cable network (Fiber Optic), partnership in construction of digital classrooms, sponsorship for manpower development in ICT based content design and access funds to support ICT manpower development, etc.
