Shittu Charges NAS to Attract Funding Partners

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu has charged the National Addressing System Committee to be proactive and strategize to attract funding partners for the implementation of the National Addressing System (NAS).

He stated this at the 2nd Committee meeting of the National Addressing System (NAS) held in Abuja.

The Minister pointed out that government alone cannot fund the implementation of the National Addressing System program and there is the need to develop strategies to attract funding partners to participate in the activities with shared benefits in focus.

Dr. Shittu reiterated the urgent need to set up key addressing infrastructure items like National Addressing Data Ecosystem (NADE), approved by the National Economic Council last year.

According to him, “The System comprised of software that links all Addressing Data GIS Offices in the 774 Local Government Areas through their states offices to the National Addressing database.

The Minister said, “ it connects to the National Database hence, National Bureau of Statistics portal is essential for the operation of the National Addressing System.”

He stated that the assignments require human capital and proactive policy and the Committee should view the various proposals and recommend appropriate measures to actualize proper Addressing System for the nation.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, M. F. Istifanus stated that the National Addressing System is essential in helping the security situation and access to a location in the country once the National Addressing system is implemented.

He added that the Ministry will welcome credible suggestions, advice, and support of all stakeholders and Nigerians that would facilitate the implementation of the program.
