ANNOUNCEMENT

The Speaker of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila clarified to Members that there is no contradiction between his view and that of the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Ahmed Idris Wase on the matter brought on the floor of the House by Rep. Ben Igbakpa on the need to invoke Section 58(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to again pass the Electoral Act, 2022. This he stated is as shown by the combined reading and interpretation of the Constitution and the House rules, based on Order 12, Rule 20 of the Rules. He clarified that the motion should be calling to bring the Bill back to the House, either by going through the due processes or to be committed straight to the Committee of the Whole as it had previously been considered on the floor of the House.
