The Gains And Echoes of 3rd Edo Sports Festival

FIC Report (Edo State) – The 3rd Edo State Sports Festival has  come and gone, but the gains or benefits of the event will for a long time remain in the minds  of the people of the state, especially the officials of the state government.

In addition to the entertainment created by the event, it also created opportunity for new athletes to be discovered, to boost team Edo. It was also an opportunity to test logistics, organizational skill, efficiency and the facilities earmarked for the forthcoming National Sports Festival to be hosted by the state.                                 Indeed, the event ended with a success story.

The sport loving Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Phillip Shuaibu,  in his closing remark confidently declared that Edo State is ready to host Nigeria. He reiterated Governor Godwin Obaseki’s earlier declaration at the Opening Ceremony of the Festival, that this sporting event has  become an annual one in the State sporting calendar. He is also hopeful that the Edo state government will take sport to the grassroot and bring the state to an enviable position in sports in the country..

For the  Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission and LOC to the Edo games, Barr Godwin Dudu Orumen, it was a “Mission Accomplished”.

At the end of the six day Sports Festival which took place at the University of Benin sport complex, Ikpoba – Okha Local Government Area emerged the over all winner, the second position was occupied by Owan West Local Government Area while Egor Local Government Area took the 3rd position.
