We Must Focus on our Huge Gas Reserves to Diversify the Economy – Sylva

The Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva has declared that, focus and emphasis on gas is one sure way of diversifying the Nigerian economy. The Minister made the declaration at a recent event in Abuja where he was bestowed with the “Gas Decade Personality Award” by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN).

Sylva, in his acceptance speech at the event added that Nigeria must begin to expand her gas capabilities while making gas exploration and utilization deliberate.

Conferring the award on the Minister, OGTAN President Dr. Mayowa Afe extolled Sylva’s commitment to the Federal Government’s Gas initiatives and policies. He stated that the award was in recognition of the Minister’s lead roles in revolutionizing and opening up the country’s gas sector, adding that the Minister has brought sanity and calmness to the Petroleum industry. Dr. Afe particularly thanked the Minister for declaring Nigeria as a gas-based nation on behalf of President Mohammadu Buhari.

Sylva was instrumental to a number of laudable initiatives aimed at ensuring gas acceptability, penetration and utilization. These include the Natural Gas Expansion Program (NGEP), National Gas Transportation Network Codes, the Autogas Policy, the 614KM Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) natural gas pipeline among others.
