KAURAN NAMODA  (Office of the Vice President Report)

Nigeria’s Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo has cautioned politicians to play politics according to the rules and stop promoting unwholesome tendencies that are capable of polarizing the polity.

Mohammed Sambo said this on Saturday December 27, 2014 at the empowerment programme of Senator  Sahabi Ya’u in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State. Adding, “Nigeria is a united and indivisible country under God. He expressed his desire for Nigerians to belong to the same faith, saying no one can do otherwise. He also called on Nigerians to be united in spite of ethnic and religious differences.

While reflecting on the past political experience, the VP noted that Nigerians have lived in harmony and operated their political equation based on the two faiths.  He further revealed that Tafawa Balewa and Nnamdi Azikiwe worked together as well as Shehu Shagari and Alex Ekwueme, Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan and now Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo, making the combination an acceptable formula across the nation. He also inferred that other political parties have emulated such practice and have severally chosen pastors as their running mates.

The Vice President regretted the situation where some politicians whip up sentiments by announcing that the two foremost political parties are divided over religious lines. He informed the audience that the meaning of his middle name  was derived from the holy city of Medina, enjoining the Nigerian people to vote  en-mass for the PDP as it is the party that has always championed their interest. Sambo promised that he would soon come back to Kaura Namoda in a train ride as the rail line has been completed. While reciting the first verse of the Holy Quran called ‘faithful kitab’, the crowd chorused with him.

Earlier at the residence of the Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau (General), a reconciliation meeting was held where all the gubernatorial aspirants promised to work with Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi popularly known as MAS to deliver Zamfara State to President Jonathan and the gubernatorial candidate.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included the Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero; the Minister of Transport as well as  that of Foreign Affairs and Defence. Others were: the former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Sokoto State and other personalities.
