Women To Get More Recognition In Sports – Dare

ABUJA (Min of Youths and Sport Report) – The  Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Akin Dare, has described women as pivot to sports development in the country, deserving recognition in every ramifications.  

He said the role of women is recognized not only in sports, but generally and that the Ministry will go beyond the affirmative structure in their recognition.                            

The Minister made this declaration during a courtesy call on him by the  Association of Women in Sports, led by its National President, Prof.  Florence Adeyanju, in his Abuja office, recently.

The Minister commended the  women for making the Association open for both the able and the disabled, as he affirmed that women have won more laurels for the country and  also, seen as the Ministry’s hopefuls in the forthcoming Olympics in Tokyo 2020. 

The Minister further revealed that the Ministry is building a High performance center in Abuja and plans are on ground to build about six more to assist the athletes in their performances, he therefore urged the women to encourage the youths to participate more in sports.    

Earlier, the President of the Association, Prof. Florence Adeyanju gave the Minister an insight into the mandate of the Association and achievements thus far.

According to her, women in sports have always been discriminated despite winning laurels for  the country. She appealed to the Minister to implement the affirmative action  entrenched in the Beijin declaration, stressing that it would accord women the deserving recognition that would spur them to achieve greater heights.
